How does Texas V.I.N.E. work?
-Texas
V.I.N.E. electronically links a national V.I.N.E.
Communication Center to the custody information housed in
local jails. The process works like this:
-
Custody
and court information is gathered by the V.I.N.E.
Communications Center in Kentucky
-
V.I.N.E.
compares the offender and case information to the list
of registered users
-
When it
finds a match, V.I.N.E. immediately places a call to the
registered user notifying them of the change in custody
or case status. Even if this change occurs in the middle
of the night, the registered victim will receive a call.
How do users register?
-
-Most
users register by calling the Texas V.I.N.E. toll-free
telephone number (1-877-TX4VINE, or 1-877-894-8463).
Requirements for registration are explained during the
call-in, and are very simple. Some knowledge specific to
the offender/case is generally required.
Information for victims and other system users:
-
All
telephone calls and registrations are free, anonymous
and confidential
-
Bilingual operators are available
-
Please
do not depend solely on the Texas V.I.N.E. service for
protection
-
